I came to astrology the way most people do, as a skeptic, and I left my first serious conversation about it thoroughly unsettled.
A friend had offered to read my chart. I expected the usual sun-sign pleasantries, the sort of thing printed beside the crossword. Instead she described, with uncomfortable precision, a private difficulty I had carried for years and had never put into words. When I asked how she could possibly know, she answered that it was written in my Saturn placement.
That sent me to the books. For months I studied charts: my own, my friends', and those of strangers who posted them online. The more I learned, the more the available software disappointed me. Every application I tried wore a handsome interface over the same shallow content, horoscopes composed for a twelfth of humanity and served to everyone who happened to share a birth month. None of them knew the chart in front of them.
I build things for a living, so I built the one I could not find.
